It is mostly on the bird’s belly, which is the part of the bird most exposed when it rests in water. Down has the wonderful qualities of being very warm, very light and breathable, so is highly sought after for duvets, sleeping bags, padded jackets etc. For cushions, down is commonly mixed with duck feathers, which provide the support.
