Alpacas are a true native of South America. They have been there for 30,000 years! They have been farmed for more than 6,000 years, for their hide, their meat but primarily their wool.
It is the unique qualities of alpaca wool which make it so sought after. The hollow fibres make it an excellent insulator, the smooth follicles make it hypo-allergenic and the natural resin makes it resistant to water, wrinkling and stains. Man made fabrics still have a long way to go!
